The Details...

So, yep... I am now the proud mom to THREE boys, which is kinda crazy to think about! I actually was fairly sure I spotted the goods pretty early on in the ultrasound when she was looking at the umbilical cord, so I wasn't surprised when she told us it was a boy. I've gotten pretty adept at reading ultrasounds, which actually isn't a good thing because I was a little bummed that I didn't get the big surprise with everyone else! Oh well.

The small twinge of disappointment I felt for a moment was for three reasons --
1) I'll never get to use any of my girl names
2) I won't get to raid the other department for clothes, for my own kids anyway. My niece(s), however, will be well clothed
3) I didn't get to rub it in Tom's face (he was so down on it maybe being a girl that it was getting a little annoying)

But on the whole, I am completely relieved to just know finally and that it is, in fact, another boy because I feel so comfortable with the idea of another little boy. We are thrilled! All I could think about on the way home was getting up to the attic to get down the newborn clothes. I can't wait. :) I also can't wait to hit the order button on the boy clothes I have in my Gymboree online cart. ;) I also can't wait to see all three of my little dudes TOGETHER. It's a picture I have been waiting for for six years!

The baby is healthy and all looks well, which is another huge relief. I'm always so nervous something will show up. There were some tense moments (only on my end, I think) where the the sonographer and the perinatal center doctor were doing some heavy scrutiny of the baby's hands to make sure they opened and closed. The sonographer assured me that she had seen them open plenty, but just didn't get a picture good enough to satisfy the doctor. In the end, it all looked fine. Whew.

AND... as I suspected, my placenta is in the front, which explains the lack of movement I feel. She told me that this pregnancy is going to feel VERY different with respect to the baby's movement. I won't feel a lot of constant jabs and punches and kicks. She said I'll probably only really feel the big flips and pushes as the baby gets bigger and definitely not all the time. So weird, and a little sad! I love that part of being pregnant! He's an active little bugger too, flipping around all over the place and making measurements hard to get.

And lastly, I'll post the rest of the actual ultrasound pics later, but this baby's profile looks EXACTLY like my other two. So it will be fun to see when he's born just how much he looks like them. Not many people notice that Ben and Simon actually look a lot alike until Simon puts a hat on and then you can really see it. And they both definitely have the same nose and mouth, and I think this baby shares that too. :)

So that's that! Time to do some shopping and decorating! :) So excited! Oh, and Tom was so happy to find out it was a boy and he would never have to deal with a preteen/teen girl under his roof, that he has given me total naming rights. HA! I'll take it!

Comments:
Congratulations! I could have sworn girl, but that's awesome!

Everyone thought girl, including me!

Congrats! I wonder if he will have Ben's hair or Simons??? Do we get to find out the name too this time? : )

*Some* things have to be a surprise! Besides, we're not even close to a name yet anyway. :)

I'll live vicariously through your blog. Life on the flip-side. Ha ha.
People who don't have 3 of a kind, don't quite grasp the emotions involved on a day like this.
I am very, very happy and excited for all of you.
A trio of brothers to love. ;-)

P.S. keep track of the comments so we can joke about them! (although I predict that the three son comments are much milder than the three daughter ones).

PPS. Thoughts on Intelligender? Fun gimic or not worth it?

I thought so ;) But picking a name should be esier if you get to do it be yourself. I would love to have that power if we have a third.

I thought you might say that ;) Although it may not take to long to pick one when you get to pick it by yourself. I would love that power if we have a third, it took us so long to agree on Faiths name.

Oh Katie, the comments have already started. Today, my husband has gotten a lot of, "oh.. really? How's Erin takng that? Is she upset?" when he has told people.

Today was definitely a weird day, as I know you understand. I know we got what's exactly right for our family and I feel like a weight has been lifted. I can't wait to meet our newest little guy and I LOVE that it's three of a kind and that they will (hopefully) always be close brothers. Nevertheless, the fact that it's so final *is* a little strange... almost makes me entertain the idea of another... notice I said ALMOST.

As for Intelligender. Eh. It was a fun diversion. However, I did do it completely according to the instructions and still it was wrong. So what was the point? I am kind of wishing I had that $35 in my pocket to buy a couple of cute blue outfits right now. ;)

Ha ha, sometimes even I entertain the thought of another. I do know of a family that had three girls and then a boy. I just really dislike being pregnant, so doubt that will ever happen. Plus our house only has three kid bedrooms. I think it is easier to just leave the idea open so the third doesn't seem so final.

Ooooh, I think I will have fun hearing some of the comments. Last weekend a old-lady friend asked if Landon was ripping his hair out yet. I guess that is the flip-side comment to what you have heard today. ;-) Some dads are happy with little girls just like some moms are great with little boys, right? I was more upset about not having a son than my husband was, but anyhow, those people don't know what they are missing! Seriously. Boys or Girls, Trios Rule! It's exciting to think of how the dynamics of three changes things in a way that the two/one just can't.

Your next prediction should be Team Simon or Team Ben (hair styles). And names...
Now this will be interesting...

Are you buying Three some special outfits just for him? I am for my new one. She gets some outfits all to herself.

LOL! I know! The hair is definitely going to be interesting. And I think I'll be able to tell pretty quickly this time if it's curly because I remember the day Simon was born, what little hair he had was formed into little circles on top of his head! We weren't sure until it really started coming in, but looking back, that was definitely pretty telltale.

Outfits... HA! I already went to BRU tonight and bought a ton of stuff. I am liking that I have the excuse that Three is going to be born in a totally different season. I am stocking up on preemie and 0-3-month warm weather stuff. :) (preemie because my kids NEVER fit into 0-3 month for at least a month or so and so far, this one is tracking right on, size-wise... so I'm pretty much expecting another 6-1/2 pounder)
