Pregnant in America
This documentary looks interesting. I'd love to see it...
I've gotta say though, I can't imagine not wanting to give birth in a hospital WITH a doctor... (and an epidural). ;) But again, the documentary looks interesting and I'd love to hear some of the different points of view and things they learned while making it.

i'd be very interested to...obviously the trailers are meant to show the extreme sometimes, but i'd have to say, i'm glad i am in the UK.
both my boys were born in the hospital, naturally, and with midwives around, no doctor intervention. when #3 comes along, i am staying at home with a birthing pool and 2 midwives =)

See, I like the idea of a midwife... I think they tend to be more patient and have better bedside manner than most OB's... but if I went the midwife route, I'd still stick with the hospital setting... the home thing would just make me nervous. (though the pool/bathtub thing looks like it would feel SO good... )
do they not have a birthing pool at the hospitals??
with noah i was in a 'birthing center' which is midwife run, BUT it was at the hospital and just a few yards from the normal delivery suites and doctors. it just way more low key, in your own time and there is a kitchen stocked with food for you! my midwife, bless her heart made me a banana smoothie as i lounged in the tub throughout my contractions!
i was planning on a water birth, but i went faster then they thought and so the pool wasn't filled yet! oops =)

Janelle, I haven't done the research, but I'm sure one or two of the rooms have birthing tubs... and actually, there is probably a natural birthing center within the hospital (St. Joes). I know they have a whole staff of midwives. Since I'm more interested in the epidural than the warm water, I never looked into it. ;)
