Pregnancies Side By Side...

I knew my weight gain this pregnancy was following a similar pattern to the one with Ben... but I had no idea it was THIS similar.
While cleaning out my endtable this evening, I came across my calendars from 2003-2004 where, for whatever reason, around month 5 of my pregnancy, I started writing down my weight every. single. day. Hey, I never said I wasn't a little o.c.d.

Weight gain with Ben at this exact point? 26 pounds (151) -- total weight gain at 39 weeks, 6 days... 35 pounds
Weight gain with Too? 26 pounds (138 -- yay for crazy post-partum weight loss last time that left me down a few extra!)

I have always heard this whole pre-programmed weight gain thing to be true... and really, it MUST be preprogrammed because I am SO much more active this time (chasing a toddler will do that to you), eating less and eating better foods. With Ben, I sat behind a desk for 39 weeks, ate lunch out almost every day, not to mention snacked on all the junk that was always laying around the office.

So yeah, strange. But interesting. So I'm pretty confident I'll only gain enother 9-10 pounds or so before this is all said and done. Now, the question is, will it come off at fast/easily as it did last time? Any second-timers who've already been there have thoughts on this?

Comments:
OH MY GAH, I almost posted about this very topic last week. I am, to the date, the exact same weight I was to the date last time. Exact. Well, the weight gain itself is a touch less because I started out seven pounds more (boo for crazy post partum eating that leaves no motivation for losing the baby weight when one wants to get knocked up again). But to the date, it's the same on the scale. I even told Mr. Flinger, "Wow! I'm doing better! I should be at X by Thursday and I have three pounds from there!"

And then BLAMO. I gained three pounds in two days. Fun. :-/

With Isaac, I gained 35 lbs, was back to my prepregnancy shape within a month, and reached my prepregnancy weight within 3 months. With Jacob I gained 40 lbs thanks to a near-constant stream of brownies in the final trimester. It took me 7 months and a steady stream of kickboxing classes to get rid of the muffin top, and probably 9 months to get back to my prepregnancy weight.

So. In my limited experience, it is definitely possible to chase all the weight away. BUT my experience suggests that perhaps any unnecessary pounds you would put on are tough to lose. I watched what I ate and exercised the first time; the second time brought more junk food. If I were to do it again (god help us), I would definitely try to eat better and save myself some time (and disappointment) on the other side.

well I am 3 weeks postpartum and am back to prepregnancy weight :) I gained 26 total. all 3 times I have gained the same amount, but this time I was 10 lbs heavier because I started 10 lbs more.blech. So I have 10 or more to lose to be where I "want" to be. I can get all my prepreg pants on, but they are tight on the incision so I dont know if its the best thing to do right now. Of course I have the extra stretched skin that gives me the muffin top..but hopefully I can work that sucker off once I get the ok to exercise :) The other two times I got back to prepreg weight, if not lower and clothes by 1 month as well. :) So its do able :)and hey its my third haha

So far, I have gained exactly the same at 24 weeks that I did with Laney (9 pounds). I am 25 weeks, but I only weigh at the doctors office, so I don't know if I gained a pound this week or not. Last time I was on track to gain a pound a week after 20 weeks.

However, my husband told me at the doctors office on Monday that my belly looked bigger this time. I told him that it knows what to do this time. My "gym husband" of course thinks it's cause I'm not in the gym as much this time. UGH!

Oh, Diana, I need to do that. ONLY weight myself at the doctor. Good call.
