Not That it Matters Now...

But... I'm curious. How do you all feel about the name Sebastian? Impressions? Good? Bad? Neutral?

It's one of the many names that landed on the cutting room floor thanks to my over zealous, veto-happy husband. I have liked that name ever since I saw The Neverending Story (over and over and over) when I was little. (actually, I think in the movie they called the character 'Bastian... but close enough)

Maybe it *is* too much for a little boy with parents who don't really seem like the type to take the "slightly different" name thing to the brink... (trust me, Too's potential names are not insanely popular, but they are still pretty conservative as far as names go) but I still love it. A mom on the message board I read used it for her son who was born recently. I keep seeing it in her signature and am reminded how much I like it. Maybe I'll dredge it up in a few years for Three's baby name list. (where it will promptly get vetoed again) Then again, it would present quite the challenge if we hung letters on the wall again next time...

Comments:
I like the name, and it goes well with your last name. However, I honestly don't think I would ever have named my own child 'Sebastian.'

I was actually just sitting here thinking that it kinda DOESN'T work with our last name... but hrm...

Also, I doubt I could ever actually name a child Sebastian... because we've already set a naming precident with Benjamin and Too... they both have relatively "mainstream" first names and I'm not sure "Sebastian" would quite fit with the pattern...

Eh... oh well, maybe I'll give the name to our next pet. LOL.

Sorry... When I read that I immediatley thought "Oh! Like the crab in The Little Mermaid"
But I've got Disney on the brain, I guess.

That thought did not elude me either. Damn Disney.

What? People are allowed to name their boys names that are longer than 5 letters?

And, while I like Sebastian, the vibe I get from it is one of a fellow with long, flowing hair, one who is into his hair products. I have no idea why.

ROFL. Okay, so now I am glad Tom vetoed it. ;) Singing crabs and men with long flowing hair... nosomuch the image I want my child's name to project. ;)

And Claire, we practically HAVE to go with names longer than 5 letters... silly one-syllable last name makes life difficult.

I would save it and use it for your next pet. I knew a guy who named his dog that. :)

Funny, The first thing that ran through my mind as soon as I read it was the song...The Never Ending Stor-ryyyyy. Now it's stuck in my head.

I love the name Sebastian. Rece's name was either going to be Rece, Reid, or Sebastian. I let Tony have the final say so we got Rece but if I would have picked we would have had a Sebastian. And if you look it up on the popularity chart from SS website it is actually pretty popular.

Tonia, really?! I didn't think it would even be on the chart! Like I said, it never made it past the husband veto stage, so I didn't do too much research. :)

My friend has a 15 month old son named Sebastian. I have to admit that when I first heard it I wrinkled my nose, but it fits him and it has grown on me. (I wonder if Claire sees long flowing hair when she hears the name because of Sebastian Bach, the lead singer of Skid Row back in the early 90s. He had him some gorgeous hair...)

Ha, Judy! I bet that's it! (especially since he's making regular cameos on the Gilmore Girls now). So there you go. Dudes named Sebastian are destined for musical careers, either conducting airheaded mermaids or singing songs like "18 and Life".

I didn't like it until you reminded me of the never ending story and now I kinda do.

of course, it'll NEVAH fly in this house. I mean, really, if WILLIAM is too wild, SEBASTIAN is in for.

Erin save it for your next pet, maybe a fish or something lol. The only person I ever knew with that name was taunted with the bast**d version.

Now Sebastion Coe ( ex UK Olympic runner ) was nicknamed Seb which is not so bad.
