... Which Brings Me to Another Point...
I was going to write about this further along in the pregnancy, but a comment on the previous post prompted the subject a bit earler...
We are not sharing our baby names this time around. The reasons? Well, there are several:
1) It's more fun.
2) If I share the names, then I have to listen to months and months of comments, criticism and thoughts about our choices. Been there, done that. Don't want to play.
3) It's more fun.
4) This kind of goes along with number 2... but more specifically... our boy name is not universally liked. (I'm not sure why, exactly) The few times I have mentioned it to people in the past (WAYYYY pre-pregnancy), I've had to watch them kind of snarl up their nose before they say something like, "Hrm... well, I like X better..." or "Don't you think people would call him x and make fun of him?" or "That name makes me think of {insert unliked person with same first name here)."
When the baby is born, the name will fit and people won't feel so free to make sure we know their opinion on it. I mean, really, who can criticize the name of an adorable, squishy, pink newborn? (at least not to the parents' faces) Right?
Are you already going insane not knowing? Well, put this in your pipe and smoke it...we might not share the SEX either! Muahahahahahahahaha!!! ;)
What a fun 8 more months this will be!

We didn't tell Brandon's name either even though we decided on it as soon as we found out he was a boy at the ultrasound. Since we did share the sex with people, we felt like that at least left something for a surprise AND we didn't want to hear all of the "opinions". Don't blame you at all for keeping it quiet!
HAHAHAHAH!!! Put this in your pipe and smoke it. HAHAHAH!!!
I love the name Sam. I LOVE the name Sam. I've ALWAYS wanted a boy named Sam. But then you find out other people with boys name Sam and you think, 'Well, crap! That name is taken!"
I agree. You gotta keep it to yourself. 'Cause you'll never hear the end of it.

Oh Mrs F, I DO love that name. But it's taken by a family friend... it is one of my favorite boy's names though! :)
Not telling the name is totally the way to go. But not telling the gender?!?!?? What, do you hate us or something?
I don't like this game. My brother and sister-in-law are having their 1st girl next week after having two boys. They haven't told us her name yet, and it is killing me.
However, I am having a good time with being pregnant and no one knowing. My husband is ready to tell, but I want to try and hold it as long as I can. I think it will be fun to say, I'm "blah blah" weeks, and my family freak out because we are just now telling them. However, we'll probably tell on my birthday next weekend.
Once again...I'm not amused by the secrets...I GOTTA KNOW!

OK...yes..you must share the gender..please??? thats the part that drives me nuts..ok..not sharing the name is annoying sometimes too..hhehehe.. but its up to you and I totally understand your reasonings..because thats what we have been dealing with the past month and I hate it..HATE it. Especially when its my mom who feels like she had to give her opinions and they are just plain rude..and annoying..I dont know if we will officially ever name this little boy until he is born. :( which makes it so hard for me, because we are the type who like to have a name..
Hey, on your original TOBH blog, didn't you post a list of names that you liked some time ago? Or am I too sleep-deprived and completely hallucinating?
Say I wasn't (hallucinating)...might your boy name be on this list? HMMMM????

Claire, you crack me up! There IS such a post... I just dug around and found it. I will not say if our name is or is not on there. But it will be fun to see how many people hunt through my archives looking for that list as the months go by. ;)
Wait, are you going to find out the gender and keep it to yourselves or are you going to be surprised too???
I would keep it all secret.
Second-borns need some extra excitement!

Woohoo! Congrats Erin! Last I knew you were taking a break!
We shared all the names, and no one liked them (half the time even the hubs). But I tell ya to this day it fits each and everyone of them.
And you MUST share the sex - we will be thinking pink!

Well, *I* will be thinking BLUE. Now that I have my own mini-boy army, I think everyone needs one.
And you are a big poopooface for not saying if your name is on this mystery list, which I will go a-hunting for directly. And, if I am a big jerk and want to enhance the name speculation (which I do!), I will post a link to it in the comments here!

That didn't take long. I ROCK!
Here it is. Let's all be really annoying and publicly root for our favorites. Maybe we can ruin her name for her!
I really like Christian -- that's my brother's name. We almost named Jacob "William," so that's a good one for me, too. But I think my favorite has got to be Avery. Maybe Avery William? I like the sound of that.
(and, rereading this list, I realized that Tom has HORRIBLE taste in names. Dude vetoed both "Isaac" and "Jacob", the two best names in the universe. Can he be trusted to name any more male offspring? Methinks NO.)

I agree with whoever said the second born needs a little extra excitement surrounding him or her. This is my potential middle child we are talking about here... I'm figuring I need to start the "You are special too!!" treatment in utero! ;)
Evidence of this (other than my name plan) is that I *could* have photoshopped big brother into the ultrasound photo from the other day... but I didn't! Hee. ;P

And Claire, I just finished reading your comment... ROFLMAO!!! I agree, Tom can't be trusted to name any boys. Did he not veto the best names?!
OMG, Claire your comments are cracking me UP this morning!! And Erin, I snorted my coffee when I clicked Claire's link to 'the name list post that is no-more'. ROFL!
Tim and I didn't tell the name until Conner was born and it was perfect!! Everyoone knew it was a boy, so it was a nice surprise for everyone. Congrats! (and good choice on the name decision)
Meg, I remember. It tortured me!!! :P However, it's when I first started thinking that perhaps that was the way to go!
We ended up not sharing KEaton's name at the end and it was so much fun. So I am glad you're not LOL. Just cause I know what a good time it will be for you.
As for not sharing the sex. I bet you $5 you won't be bale to keep that under wraps LOL.
