I Hate When That Happens...
I think my top baby girl name has been tainted and perhaps ruined by a little girl in Benjamin's Gymboree class.
Two reasons:
1) Her parents completely bastardized the spelling ... think along the lines of "Maddahlynne". (not the name, but a very good example of the bastardization of which I speak) What is wrong with people that they need to throw extra letters and substitute vowels and strange phonetic spellings into children's names? Don't you realize they will be tortured with it for the rest of their lives?!
2) She is a BRAT.. a banshee-screaming, not listening, class disrupting PAIN in the butt.
Arggggh. I need to shelter myself from other peoples' children while we decide on names!

I hate when people mess with the spellings of the classic names. (Emmahleigh? Um, no.)
If it helps counteract the bratty Maddahlynne image, there is a Madeline in Emily's playgroup who is super-sweet with the most adorable curly brown locks of hair.

Katie, I actually saw Emily spelled very similar to that on a mommy message board I read recently... YICK. Again, what is WRONG with people?!
The other thing WOULD help slightly with the Maddahlynne image, except that that's not the name we're considering. (sigh)

You think that's bad...try working on a psychiatric unit where all the most troubled adolescents have the BEST names!!! No wonder it took us till I was 28 weeks pregnant to decide on a name!
I just found out that my husband's cousin is wanting to name her baby the exact same name as what we picked out for a girl...FIRST and MIDDLE NAME! How does that happen??? There is no way that she knew I had that name picked out and I had no idea about her either. I'm finding out what we're having and she's not...so what's the etiquette there??? It's probably a sign that we're having a boy this time. By the way, this is a name that I have had picked out since Laney was born! I love this name!!!
Isn't it a shame that a bad experience with someone can put you off that name forever...I lost some really nice names that way, too. But we found names we liked and the kids seem fine.
Yeah, Keaton was supposed to be named Zander until I met a Zander who was so obnoxious I wanted to throw up.
Okay here in Utah bastadizing names (love that phrase) is HUGE! Everyone has tons of kids so you have to be unique if you don't want 10 per class. So you get not only the weirdest names, but the weirdest spellings.

I'm still trying to get over the shock that there is another Emmaleigh out there, though my friends took it a step farther with Emmaleighannah. It sounds pretty, but Emiliana is the same name with half the letters. Her middle name is Gabraielle, and no, there is not a typo in that.
seriously... social services should get involved... thenthe parents leave it to the teachers to teach their kids how to spell their names because it's too hard for them!!
My friend Keleigh was only named with that bastardization because her parents decided to call her Leigh and at the last minute (and after the birth certificate was typewritten out *man are we old*) they got worried people would get confused if she was a boy or a girl. So they had a "ke" added to the beginning. Its actually pretty funny if you look at her birth certificate b/c you can see that the "ke" and the "leigh" are offset from each other because the paper didn't get put back in the typewritter quite straight for the addition!!
